Thermal Transfer Overprinter (TTO) Ribbons

Thermal Transfer Overprinter (TTO) ribbons are consumable supplies used in thermal transfer overprinting technology. TTO ribbons are designed to work with TTO printers, which use heat to transfer ink from the ribbon onto a substrate, such as a label or flexible packaging material.

  • TTO ribbons typically consist of a polyester film or paper base coated with a thin layer of ink. The ink layer contains a combination of waxes, resins, and pigments that melt and transfer to the substrate when heated by the TTO print head.
  • TTO ribbons are available in a variety of formulations, including wax, wax/resin, and resin. Wax ribbons are the most commonly used and are suitable for printing on a wide range of materials, including paper and some plastics. Wax/resin ribbons are more durable and offer improved resistance to smudging and scratching, making them ideal for printing on synthetic materials. Resin ribbons are the most durable and are designed for printing on the most challenging materials, such as polyester or polypropylene films.
  • When choosing a TTO ribbon, it’s essential to consider the substrate material, the desired print quality, and the environmental conditions the printed label or packaging will encounter. The selection of the appropriate TTO ribbon will ensure the printed text and graphics are clear, legible, and long-lasting.
